Is ERC-3643 only for Ethereum?

No, but it is limited to EVM-compatible networks. ERC-3643 was approved through Ethereum’s standards process, and its reference implementation runs on Ethereum and on any EVM-compatible chain or layer 2. The standard isn’t compatible with non-EVM chains. Products built on top of it that aim to carry ERC-3643 assets across chains are separate from the standard itself.

Key facts

  • The reference implementation is written in Solidity and deploys on EVM-compatible networks.
  • The reference implementation is T-REX v4, used with ONCHAINID v2.
  • The standard isn’t compatible with non-EVM chains.

Does each chain need its own token?

A token contract lives on one chain. An issuer can deploy on several EVM-compatible chains, each with its own token contract.

What about cross-chain products built on ERC-3643?

Later versions and infrastructure built on top of the standard aim to keep an ERC-3643 asset consistent across chains, including non-EVM ones. They are separate products, not part of the ERC-3643 standard. The ERC3643 Association covers the standard as specified.
